2004 American Idol winner, Fantasia is back with her latest album, ‘Sketchbook.’
The platinum-selling singer has toured solidly for the past few years, but the North Carolina native finally hit the studio to bring some new music, before heading out on tour again this month!
Fantasia comes out swinging on this 12-track album, declaring that she is still very much in the game with the powerful ‘History.’
From here, she settles into some strong R&B, mixing her own sound with an updated twist for the single, ‘PTSD,’ before serving up some real heat with ‘Believer.’
Things slow down for the sweeping love of the single, ‘Enough’ and the love songs continue with the beautifully understated, ‘The Way.’
However, Fantasia shows she isn’t afraid to take things off on a tangent as she switches things up a few notches with the surprisingly operatic, ‘Bad Girl’ – it’s the sort of track you’ll find yourself singing along to around your home!
Halfway through the album and Fantasia hits reset for the politically charged, positive bump of ‘Free,’ before the straight fire of the superb single, ‘Holy Ghost.’
With performances that control the track throughout, Fantasia isn’t afraid to let her vocals stand for themselves, such as with the feel-good, club-ready, ‘Take Off.’
Letting the listeners pause for breath, Fantasia brings a ‘phones-in-the-air’ live moment with ‘Fighting,’ before the pop-savvy, rocked-out, countrified crossover R&B of ‘Warning.’
The album comes to a close with Fantasia settling back into some vintage-sounding soul for the fantastic ‘Looking For You.’
Without a bad track, Fantasia’s ‘Sketchbook’ shows she isn’t afraid to push her sound while maintaining her solidly soulful core – definitely worth checking – keep your eyes open for this one.
