Stormzy – Heavy Is The Head

Stormzy has released his sophomore album, ‘Heavy Is The Head’ – following on from the huge international success for his debut, ‘Gang Signs and Prayer’ in 2017.

Two years later and he picks up where he left off, claiming his place at the top of the pile while also showing humility and heart across the 16-track album.

Stormzy introduced the album by releasing the Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy featuring, club-ready, ‘Own It:’

However, there is much more to this release than chart-ready heaters, as shown by the straight spitting of ‘Audacity:’

And the emotive, ‘Do Better:’

Keeping close to the streets, the South London Grime MC also keeps God close in his rhymes, showing a personality that is more than many of the one-dimensional rappers who he elevates above.

Other highlights include the heartfelt ‘Lessons’ and the firing ‘Vossi Bop,’ but the fact is, even Stormzy’s interludes are better than many other artists’ singles (‘Don’t Forget To Breathe’).

Delivering a combination of raps and sung vocals over some genuinely rich production, Stormzy has released another must-listen album and a late challenger for one of the best releases of 2019.
